CC JTTY — Digital Mode Plugin for HamSphere 5.1

    The HamSphere JTTY Plug-in

CC JTTY brings JTTY, the brand-new digital mode from the WSJT-X team (the people behind FT8), right into your HamSphere station. JTTY feels like classic RTTY — type, press a key, and your text goes out — but under the hood it uses FT8-family technology with error correction, so you get clean copy instead of garbage characters. No UTC clock sync, no 15-second cycles: transmit whenever you like. Perfect for fast contest exchanges and real keyboard-to-keyboard QSOs.

    Key features:
    • Whole-band decoder — every JTTY station between 300 and 2800 Hz is decoded at the same time, each on its own line, just like an FT8 band activity window. Text appears live, frame by frame, as it arrives.
    • Error-free copy — every frame is protected by a convolutional code and a CRC check. A frame either decodes correctly or is not shown at all, so noise never prints as gibberish. Tested all night on band noise with no false decodes.
    • Live FFT waterfall — real-time spectrum display spanning 300–3000 Hz with adaptive AGC. Your TX position is shown as a shaded bracket covering all four tones, and small cyan markers show where stations have been heard in the last minute.
    • Click-to-work — click a received line and the station’s callsign drops into the DX call box and your TX moves to their frequency. Or click the waterfall to set your TX frequency, and fine-adjust with the mouse wheel (±1 Hz, Shift for ±10 Hz) or the arrow keys.
    • F1–F8 contest macros — CQ, EXCH, TU, MY call, HIS call, AGN?, HIS AGN? and NR, using the same message forms as WSJT-X so they pack into the fewest frames. Press the F-key and it goes out instantly; hold Shift to add it to the TX box instead. Your callsign, the DX call and the serial number are filled in automatically.
    • Serial number counter — the NR button holds your contest serial number. Click to step up, Shift-click to step down. It is sent as “599 nnn” in your exchange.
    • Free keyboard TX — type anything into the TX box and press Enter. The plugin packs your text into the minimum number of frames and shows how many frames and seconds it will take before you send. Long messages are split automatically.
    • Colour-coded receive window — CQ calls in cyan, messages to you in orange, your own transmissions in yellow, and incomplete messages dimmed. Every line shows UTC time and frequency. Scroll back with the mouse wheel; your place holds even as new text arrives.
    • QSO filter — one click hides the rest of the band and shows only stations near your TX frequency or calling you. Ideal in a busy pile-up.
    • ALL / NARROW search — decode the whole passband, or narrow the decoder to ±150 Hz around your TX frequency for a lighter load on slower computers.
    • Four-tone indicator — four bars show the energy of each JTTY tone at your TX frequency, so you can see at a glance that you are sitting right on a signal.
    • TX monitor — local sidetone lets you hear your own transmission as it goes out, with a live frame counter in the TX panel. HALT (or Esc) stops transmitting at any time.
    • Live stats — mode, TX frequency, frames decoded and sync quality of the last decode, updated in real time.
    • Save log — exports everything sent and received to a text file with UTC time, audio frequency and transceiver frequency. One click.
    • Real frequency display — shows the actual transceiver frequency in the header, not a placeholder.
    • Auto sample rate detection — adapts to your audio configuration automatically on startup.

    How to operate:

Open the plugin and leave the decoder on ALL — every JTTY signal in the passband will start appearing in the receive window. To answer a station, click its line: the callsign and frequency are picked up for you. Press F2 to send your report and serial number, then F3 to say TU. To call CQ, click a clear spot on the waterfall and press F1. For a chat, click the TX box, type your message and press Enter — the plugin handles PTT, modulation and timing automatically. There is no clock to synchronise and no cycle to wait for: transmit whenever the frequency is clear.

    Technical:

JTTY as introduced in WSJT-X 3.2. 4-GFSK modulation (BT 2.0) at 31.25 baud with 31.25 Hz tone spacing, about 127 Hz occupied bandwidth. Each 1.888-second frame carries 13 synchronisation symbols and 46 data symbols; a message is 1 to 16 frames. 34-bit payload protected by CRC-12 and a tail-biting convolutional code (K=10, rate 1/2), decoded with a wrap-around Viterbi decoder. Structured source coding packs callsigns, CQ calls, reports, serial numbers, grid locators, ARRL sections and control phrases into single frames; free text is sent five characters per frame. Streaming receiver with sliding-DFT sync search across the passband, time/frequency refinement, CRC and grammar validation, duplicate suppression and per-station message assembly. Transmitted waveform verified sample-for-sample against the reference JTTY implementation. 512-point FFT waterfall with adaptive AGC.

CC JTTY puts the newest digital mode in amateur radio on the air in HamSphere, wrapped in the clean and intuitive CC-Line interface you already know.

JTTY protocol by the WSJT Development Team. Compatible with all HamSphere skins. Requires HamSphere 5.0 or later.
